Birds

An old filmmaking trick is to put movemant into the foregrounds. Birds have been very popular in my paintings since the sparrow and eagles in the Myth – series. They make the pictures friendlier, make contact with the viewer and have nice referencing functions. And they can bring irony or even humour into the pictures.

In the East Berlin Zoo, the shoebill was a gift from Egypt to the GDR. my star at the time. A lot of birds look smart, but I felt absolutely sussed out by this “Wessi”. The shoebill protects smaller birds, and you can also make contact with it as a human by bowing to each other.
